To
become "acculturated" in the traditional sense has generally meant to
educate one's self in the literature, art and music of the western
tradition. Scholars who have held on to this notion have continually
overlooked the contributions of Mexican, Chicano, and Latin Americans in
literature, music, art, etc. This has resulted in an almost uniform
disregard of our cultural traditions, our creativity and our unique
perspective of the world.
The purpose of this page is to display
the creative work produced by our people, and/or about our culture. Browse
through our sections and find out more about the great works of Latin
American literature, the newest film productions by Mexican and other
Latin American directors, the life and work of some of the greatest
Mexican artists and much more.
Because our culture is not an isolated and definite object or concept,
this section is by no means an attempt to create an absolute definition.
It is instead a constantly changing forum that explore the many aspects of
our cultural identity.
