You're an avid Folklorista, dedicated to
your Arte. This is where you will find tips on being your best
at what you love. Zapateando!!
Spring Break is a wonderful time
to spend enjoying meals and gatherings with family and friends. With a
little time off and a little too much festejando, it is easy to
fall into a rut making a return to dance practice difficult . Here are a
few tips to help you enjoy the Break without packing on too much weight
or losing your dancing
edge:
Prepare for BIG meals.
If you know you are going to pork out on a particular evening, eat small
light meals throughout the day to avoid over doing it. The small meals
will also have the great side effect of increasing your metabolism so you
will burn more calories. Enjoy the Tamales guilt free.
Be active.
Your favorite Novela and Sacramento Kings games excepted, get out of the
house. Play soccer, run a lap, go to the gym and workout, dance the night
away at your local club, have physical fun. 30 Minutes, 2-3 times per week
minimum.
Listen to your RAICES music in your car.
Advisory, DO NOT DANCE WHILE DRIVING!!. That in mind, casual listening to
your Folklorico music will familiarize you with the rhythms of the songs
and you will retain the repertoire of dances you already know. Many
dancers even notice a speeding up of their heart rate as their body
mentally recalls dance steps.
Go to the show.
The list of Folklorico dance concerts in April and May is lengthy. Support
your favorite group and recall what it is about dancing you love so much.
There is no learning experience greater than seeing others perform.
Pack a snack.
So you are driving 7 hours to visit your Primos? Instead of loading up on
candy at the 7 Eleven, take fruits and healthy snacks with you. You will
save money and save yourself the sugar highs and lows associated with the
normal junk food.
A little thought and preparation
throughout the week can pay off big when you return to practice and (yiikes)
the stage.
