The big audition is coming up
Your company has been practicing every night for the chance to try out for
the show of a lifetime. Nerves are raw, and everyone is on edge from the
hard work and long hours. So what can you do to help the team get through
this stressful time and maximize your shot at impressing the judges?
1) Be gentle. With each other that is. Recognize that all of us deal with
stress in different ways. OK, so your dance partner insists on talking
himself through the movements and its' driving you nuts. Is it helping
him? If so, grin and bear it.
2) Be present. Nothing ruins the final stages of prepping for a big show
like dancers being late and absent. Final practices are about polishing
the material and group cohesion. This can only happen when everyone is at
practice and giving their best efforts to get it right.
3) Focus. If you can help it, never schedule that extra work project, that
Finals Paper, or those added work hours for performance week.
Professionals from athletes to performers focus on the task at hand to
excel. So should you. Distractions will only increase your overall mental
fatigue and interfere with your ability to concentrate at practice.
4)Eat for Success. Nothing ruins your bodies’ ability to perform at its’
peak like pigging out before a show. You dedicate countless hours to
learning the routine and than blow it in the hour before the show by
having that cheeseburger with fries? Makes exactly no sense. Eat light and
save the chowing down for AFTER the big audition!!
4) Relax. Make time outside of practice to soak in the Hot tub at your
gym, make an appointment with your massage Therapist, or take some quiet
time to curl up with your favorite book. Whatever you can do to find peace
and quiet for even 1 short hour. Do it! The relaxation will do you wonders
when it comes time to take the stage.
Following these simple rules will help you and your Group put together a
great audition
