ASK ROXI

ASK ROXI, the Folklorico Dance Diva

RAICES Artistic Director, Roxana, has been a folklorico addict since the age of four.  She was raised in her trenzas, learned to walk in her botas, and  remains devoted to her Cultura.  She has been involved in dozens of Grupos, Festivales, and other dance related events.

Send your Folklorico related dilemmas, chistes, and questions to ASK ROXI and get the advice and information your are looking for by E-Mailing her at Dancediva@raicesdemitierra.com.  E-mails selected for responses on our site will be edited for length and interest.  All names will be changed to protect the identities of all.

Dear Roxi.  I am writing as the brother of a Northern California Folklorico Dancer.  My sister, Emelia, lives for Folklorico.   She would rather be at practice than at home, or work, or in school. All she talks about is this choreography or the latest show or that vestuario.   I really believe she is addicted and I know she is not the only one with this behavior.  I can buy that dancing is fun, but I can’t understand why anyone could get so attached to it.  My question is simple.  What in the heck is so attractive about Mexican Dance that makes people want to live for it?

Signed.  Bewildered.                    "Stay tuned for ROXI'S Answer........................"
